Questions People Actually Ask Us

These come up pretty much every week, so figured we'd answer them here. If your question isn't covered, just reach out.

Depends on what you need. Simple stuff like reviewing a standard contract might be a flat $500-1000. Something like incorporating a business with shareholder agreements runs $2500-5000. Bigger projects like M&A deals or ongoing compliance work - we'll give you an estimate based on the specifics. We try to use flat fees when possible so you know exactly what you're paying.

Nope. We work with all kinds of businesses - we just happen to have a lot of experience with tech companies because Toronto's got a strong tech scene. If you're a restaurant, retail business, consulting firm, whatever - as long as it's corporate/business law, we can help. The principles are mostly the same across industries.

Depends on what it is and how backed up we are. For urgent stuff, we can usually get you something within a day or two - we've had clients close deals same-week. For less time-sensitive work, might be a week or so. When you reach out, we'll tell you honestly how quickly we can get to it.

Yeah, we work with clients all over Ontario and often across Canada. Most of our work happens remotely anyway - video calls, email, secure document sharing. We're licensed in Ontario, so there are some things we can't do in other provinces, but a lot of corporate work (especially federal incorporation and IP stuff) isn't province-specific.

Shoot us an email or give us a call. If it's something we can answer in five minutes, we'll just answer it - no charge. If it needs more than that, we'll let you know and we can figure out next steps. We're not gonna bill you for a two-minute phone call.

Not really our thing. We focus on transactional and advisory work - setting things up right so you hopefully avoid litigation. If you do end up in a dispute that's heading to court, we know good litigators we can refer you to. We might help with pre-litigation negotiation or settlement discussions though.

Yeah, we do this for several clients - basically acting as their external legal team. We can set up a retainer arrangement where you've got regular access to us for questions, contract reviews, compliance stuff, whatever comes up. It's more cost-effective than hiring full-time in-house counsel, and you get the benefit of our varied experience.

We carry professional liability insurance like all law firms. But honestly, the best approach is prevention - which is why we're pretty thorough in our work and make sure you understand what's going on. If we mess something up (it happens, we're human), we'll work with you to fix it. Our goal is always to make things right.
